Review: “The Perfect Weapon: Star Wars” by Delilah S. Dawson The Journey to The Force Awakens begins with a series of short stories

This novella in the “Journey to The Force Awakens” Series follows a bounty hunter, Bazine Netal, as she undertakes a mission to find and deliver a case last possessed by a retired Storm Trooper. This is a quick and interesting story and could operate well as a standalone story outside of the Star Wars universe with only a minimal rewrite. Therefore I would recommend it highly. With The Force Awakens opening this month I am curious to see if any of the characters, places, or events play into the new movie at all.

Don’t expect Jedi or big space battles in this one. It is a smaller story inside of Star Wars, and works well without the need to name drop characters left and right.

This is the first post EU book I have read that takes place post Endor, and as such I was on the lookout for what EU references might have been worked back in. There were not many that I saw, but there were several references to “The New Republic” which, based on the promotional material released so far, had me scratching my head. This made me even more curious as to the state of the Star Wars Universe between ROTJ and TFA. The book was also quite vague as to when it takes place. The retired storm troopers that Bazine meets are quite decrepit so that makes me think closer to TFA.

Overall, I would recommend this as a quick, fun read. The audiobook was well done with the high production value I have come to expect from Star Wars audio and the voice acting was superb.

Star Wars: PerfectWeaponJourney to Star Wars: The Force Awakens with this exclusive ebook short story set shortly before the events of the film, featuring a quick-witted mercenary who takes big risks for bigger rewards—and now faces the challenge that will take her to the edge.

There are plenty of mercenaries, spies, and guns for hire in the galaxy. But probably none as dangerous and determined as Bazine Netal. A master of disguise—and lethal with a blade, a blaster, or bare handed—she learned from the best. Now it’s her turn to be the teacher—even if schooling an eager but inexperienced recruit in the tricks of her trade is the last thing she wants to do. But it’s the only way to score the ship she needs to pull off her latest job.

An anonymous client has hired Bazine to track down an ex-stormtrooper and recover the mysterious package he’s safeguarding. Payment for the mission promises to be astronomical, but the obstacles facing Bazine will prove to be formidable. And though her eager new sidekick has cyber skills crucial to the mission, only Bazine’s razor-sharp talents will mean the difference between success or failure—and life or death.
