Science fiction author Daniel H. Wilson talks about his new novel, Hole in the Sky, a first contact story centered in the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma.
Daniel talks about finding a story balance between the scientists, the military, and the Native people in a first contact situation where everyone is trying to figure out “what next”. Telling the story from Indigenous perspectives on technology and communications and how different they are from the typical Western perspectives was important to him.
He also talks about his background in security and threat forecasting, and how that helps with the science fiction stories he writes, and wants to write, and shares his opinions on robotics, AI and integrating LLMs into more and more aspects of daily life.
And fingers crossed, we’ll get a movie adaptation for Netflix from Aggregate Films, with Sterlin Harjo directing!
