Science fiction author Bethany Jacobs talks about THIS BRUTAL MOON, the conclusion to her epic space opera trilogy, “The Kindom”.
Bethany talks about blending the political intrigue with a space opera epic between worlds, and having fun developing morally flexible characters and the societies being built, toyed with, and on the verge of upheaval. She was inspired by studying the history of how colonization and exploitation of indigenous societies and people, and applying those histories to these new worlds and protagonists became a fun experience for her as the story expanded.
She also talks about continuing to hone her writing craft, since she’s still kinda new at this (THESE BURNING STARS was her debut novel), and she looks forward to getting good at writing short stories and novellas, because she knows she has more to tell in this world. And she’s also interested in finding out what the best way might be to share all the supplemental materials (maps, documents, deleted scenes) with the fans who’d be interested in that content.
THIS BRUTAL MOON is out December 2, 2025 from Orbit Books.
