Award-winning science fiction author Ken Liu talks about his new novel, All That We See or Seem, the first in his new “Julia Z” series.

Ken talks about his plan to make this an open series, where each story is technically a standalone, although it features the same world and characters. He talks about Julia Z’s background and skills that make her the perfect person to solve this puzzle that she’s been brought into, and the technology of the world being “near future” from our own.

He also goes into detail about the use of personal AI assistants in the story, and how they are integrated into the larger world, and touches a little bit on the dream technology used. He also talks about the research he did into machine learning, augmented reality and interfacing technology with the brain, and what he thinks we should be doing in regards to putting the reins on global and personal AI models.

ALL THAT WE SEE OR SEEM is available now from Saga Press, and the second book is almost ready to go, as is his next short story collection, The Passing of the Dragon and Other Stories.
