Fantasy author Natasha Bowen talks about Call of the Dragon, the first book in her new series, inspired by the differences between the dragons of Nigerian and Welsh mythology.
Natasha talks about how her stories have been influenced by the Nigerian myths and mythology she had grown up, and how having a different mermaid story led to her first book, Skin of the Sea. That examination of the cultural differences in myths with similar elements led to her looking into exploring the similarities and differences of the dragons of Nigerian myth and Welsh myth.
Since this is her second duology, she also talks about her preference for the tighter story structure of a duology over a trilogy, and how that affects how she sees the entire story and her approach to writing and editing them.
Natasha also talks about what she reads and loves reading, from YA to fantasy to plays, and the rare stories she enjoys rereading.
And now I need to look for a book on Nigerian mythology.
The sequel, Rise of the Dragon, should be out Spring 2027.
